The resort affair

The resort affair

Alice noticed the young man immediately, right from the moment she checked into the resort. He had been standing next to her at the front desk, smiling warmly and flashing a set of perfect, pearly-white teeth.

He was a real head-turner—tall, muscular, with dark, brooding features that seemed like every woman's dream. And those eyes! They were bright, playful, and so deep it felt like you could drown in them forever. Now, comfortably settled on her beach lounger, Alice saw him again.

The man was splashing in the waves of the warm, gentle Caribbean Sea. As he waded out of the water, she was able to appreciate him in all his glory. A shiver ran through her body; she had never seen such a flawlessly built young man, let alone imagined spending time with one.

Yes, Alice had come on this vacation looking for a bit of adventure. It didn't bother her in the least that she had been married for ten years, or that her husband, Steve, was currently working himself to the bone back home so she could buy a new designer coat, boots, and jewelry upon her return. When he bought her this all-inclusive trip to the Bahamas, she already knew she was going there for some "personal fulfillment." All her friends did it, and she saw nothing wrong with it. A woman has a right to let loose once in a while, doesn't she?

That was exactly why Alice had chosen this particular island. She'd heard from a friend who had been here before that the beaches were crawling with local charmers who were more than happy to cater to the whims of lonely, beautiful women.

But meeting this "Apollo" turned her world upside down. He instantly eclipsed every other man she'd ever seen. She desperately wanted to meet him and start their "pleasant acquaintance," but she was sensible enough not to throw herself at him. She held out hope that he would notice her and make the first move. After all, she was no ordinary woman; she had spent years in modeling school and had even graced the covers of a few glossy magazines.

Nowadays, thanks to her husband, she didn't really have to work. She only spent a couple of hours a day at a boutique salon doing manicures—more for her own amusement than for the paycheck.

Mark, positioned about twenty yards away from Alice and sipping a cold drink, was brazenly checking her out. He liked her sculpted figure. Moreover, he had noticed the hungry glances she stole at him whenever she thought he wasn't looking. An experienced player like him knew instantly that this woman was looking for a good time.

"Well then, I'll give you exactly what you're looking for," Mark smirked to himself as he started walking toward her lounger.

Approaching her with his most charming smile, he said, "Good morning. What a coincidence—I believe I saw you at check-in yesterday?"

Alice was overjoyed—he had finally noticed her. She beamed like a brand-new penny. She wasn't going to let this alpha male slip through her fingers; she was going to spend seven wonderful days with him.

"You're right, I remember you too. Don't tell me a man like you is vacationing in such a beautiful place all alone?" she replied flirtatiously.

He laughed heartily and sat on the edge of her lounger, his hand brushing against her leg as if by accident. A bolt of electricity shot through her. For a moment, she lost her composure, blushing like a schoolgirl, but she quickly masked it.

"I actually prefer vacationing alone," he said, holding her gaze meaningfully. "I'm not burdened by a wife or kids, and I make enough to afford a little relaxation in pleasant company. I'm Mark, by the way."

"Alice. Well, I'm not quite as lucky as you. My life isn't as free. I have a husband, but to be honest, I don't love him at all, and I suspect he feels the same. We even sleep in separate rooms. And I can't stand children—those little leeches that just suck the life and money out of you," she found herself confessing.

"Perfect, babe. You took the bait. Now I just have to reel you in," Mark thought maliciously.

They spent the entire day together. As it turned out, they were even from the same city. Alice poured out her life story to her new friend, even telling him where she worked and giving him her phone number. They were so comfortable together that by evening they were walking arm-in-arm, and by nightfall, their lips were locked in a passionate kiss to the sound of the crashing waves and the evening breeze.

Those were the most incredible days of her life. Alice hadn't been this happy in years. Mark gave her everything her husband didn't: passion and excitement.

"Let that idiot Steve live at his office for all I care. He could never compare to a lover like Mark! And he seems wealthy, too."

It was her dream—to find a rich, hot man who could make her burn with desire. Steve could stay in the picture just for the sake of being married and for the emotional support; after all, where else would she find someone so devoted, someone who listened to her every whim and practically worshipped the ground she walked on?

But unfortunately, even the most perfect honeymoon phase has to end.

The vacation flew by in a blur, and soon it was time to say goodbye. Mark lived only fifteen miles away from her, but there was no talk of a future relationship. This was a vacation fling, and it was time to move on. Before her flight home, they sat embracing for a long time at the airport. Alice's heart was breaking; she didn't want to let go of the hands that had given her so much pleasure and hope. But Steve would be waiting for her on the other side, so this was their final moment. Alice wept against his strong chest, saying goodbye forever, while Mark wore a mysterious, cold smile, a wicked glint in his eyes.

He knew the real fun was just beginning.

The magical vacation ended, and it was time to return to reality.

A week had passed. Steve was in the kitchen cooking dinner for his beloved wife. He was so happy she had enjoyed her trip and returned looking so refreshed. Alice was in the bedroom, watching TV and doing her nails.

Suddenly, her phone on the coffee table rang. When Alice saw the caller ID, her heart stopped—it was Mark. Grabbing the phone, she answered in a hushed whisper.

"Hello? Are you crazy? Why are you calling me? My husband is right here, he might hear you!"

"Hi, gorgeous. I've just been missing you so much. Maybe we could meet up?" his voice crackled over the line.

"Mark, I don't think that's a good idea. What we had... it was just a fling. We talked about this," she said uncertainly.

But he kept insisting on a meeting. They went back and forth for a few minutes without reaching a conclusion. Alice hung up abruptly when she heard her husband's footsteps approaching.

"Honey, were you talking to someone?" he asked.

"Just a girlfriend, babe," she lied. "Hey, could you give me a little more cash? I already went through what you gave me yesterday."

"Sure, but it'll have to be tomorrow. I get paid then and I'll give it to you. You know I can't say no to you, sweetheart."

As she drifted off to sleep in her cozy, warm bed that night, Alice thought about Mark and his call. So, he remembered her too. She felt a surge of pride that a man like him couldn't forget her. Day after day, Mark kept calling, sometimes several times a day. Alice was nearly caught by her husband several times. She begged her lover not to call, promising she would call him when it was safe, but it was no use; he was stubborn and didn't seem to listen. The situation was becoming dangerous. She could ruin her life and disgrace herself in front of her parents. She was perhaps more afraid of them finding out what their "modest" daughter had been up to than she was of her husband finding out.

One day, while Alice was finishing up with her last client at the salon, she was told someone was waiting for her. When she walked into the lobby, she froze—there stood Mark, looking as if he didn't have a care in the world.

"Hey, beautiful! Did you miss me? I've been calling and calling. Or do you not love me anymore?" he said, his voice booming.

"Oh my God, be quiet! Why are you shouting?" she hissed, looking around in a panic.

She realized then that things with Mark had gone too far. It was time to end it. Alice realized she valued her stable, comfortable life with her husband after all. She didn't need these messy complications. She decided to have a serious talk with him. Soon, they were sitting on a secluded park bench.

"Listen," Alice said, her voice sharp and nervous. "Whatever happened between us stays in the past. I don't want to see you anymore. Our relationship was a mistake. I love my husband!"

Mark laughed right in her face.

"Is that right? And what were you thinking when you were dragging me into bed? Why didn't you love your wonderful husband then? And what do you think will happen if he finds out about our little 'activities' down south?"

Alice was stunned. she sat there, crushed, as tears began to roll down her cheeks.

"But you won't tell him... will you?" she practically begged.

"I'll have to think about that. But for now, goodbye. At least for today."

Mark was practically choking back laughter. He relished the fact that he was leaving Alice in the dark, terrified for her future. And he was absolutely going to destroy her. He was going to tear this treacherous woman's life to pieces, just as his own wife had done to him years ago. He had loved her more than anything, but she had betrayed him with his best friend while he was working overtime. He had walked in on them in their own bed when he came home early one day.

Since then, he had made a vow to get revenge on every married woman who wasn't satisfied with her husband—to break their hearts and ruin their futures, just as they had betrayed their own vows.

Alice was now afraid of her own shadow. Everywhere she looked, she thought she saw Mark. He never stopped calling; she had to block his number, but he just called from others. She even had to start intercepting the mail before her husband could get to it because Mark began sending her love letters. She jumped at every sound. She was terrified of losing Steve and deeply regretted what she had done.

Eventually, Mark decided to finish what he started and "save" the poor husband from the traitor. He was tired of playing games with her.

"I think she's suffered enough. Time to end this."

The men met just as Steve was arriving home with a trunk full of groceries and flowers for his wife. Mark was waiting for him in the driveway.

He told him the whole truth about what his "dear" wife had really been doing while he was working for her. He even provided a couple of photos as proof. He explained why he had done it. Surprisingly, Steve wasn't angry at Mark. He just felt a deep, hollow disappointment in his wife. His soul was torn by an unbearable pain.

"I'm sorry, Steve. I just wanted to open your eyes to who your wife really is. If she betrayed you once, she'd do it again. It would have been worse if you'd caught her yourself like I did. You won't hear from me again. What you do now is up to you," Mark said before walking away.

When Alice got home, Steve had a very serious talk with her. She confessed to the affair, begging for forgiveness on her knees, swearing it would never happen again. But how can you forgive something like that? When you work yourself to death to provide everything for someone, only for them to throw it all away for a thrill?

"I worked so hard for that money just to send you on a vacation, and you betrayed everything I felt for you. I loved you so much, and you dragged my heart through the dirt," were the last words Steve said to her before kicking her out of the house.

She had to go crawling back to her parents. They didn't turn her away, but she never married again and never found love. It was her penance for the pain she had caused a good man out of sheer lust. For many long nights, she cried into her pillow, realizing what she had lost, but it was too late. You can't go back to the way things were.

Steve, however, eventually found someone who truly loved him. It was a local teacher who had been visiting her students and knocked on his door by mistake.

They started talking and realized they had a connection. Gradually, they built a happy life together, and soon enough, his new wife gave birth to their first child. Steve was overjoyed to have a daughter—something Alice had never wanted. Mark, too, eventually found peace; his heart was softened by a kind woman he met later on. Only Alice paid the ultimate price for her actions, a deserved ending for a woman who let greed and lust destroy a good life.
